The John Nelson Darby Academy is accepting applications for its inaugural school year! The 2017/18 class schedule begins September 6, 2017. Open enrollment for children grades 3-12 has begun.
Is there a need for another private school?
At the John Darby Academy, we are concerned that private Christian education has one of two foundational problems.
First, the school may be one that has an environment of Christian values but does not have a solid theology built into the curriculum. When children are educated without a theological foundation, they will struggle with making the Bible make sense in the modern world. This is one of the reasons that so many Christian young adults leave the church and their active faith when they leave home. Our goal is to integrate theology into all subject matters.
The second foundational problem in Christian private education is that schools that do integrate theology into their curriculum often have the wrong theology. There is a puritan / Calvinist theology that struggles from false assumptions which force all theology into the TULIP theological system, or there is a “name it and claim it” theology that fails to teach children how to correctly apply the Word. At JN Darby, we reject both Calvinistic education and charismatic education.
The JN Darby theological viewpoint
Our school is named after John Nelson Darby, the 19th-century pastor who is most often credited as the “founder of dispensational theology.” While this credit is not entirely well-deserved, Darby did communicate and systematize dispensational theology to a stronger degree than any pastor of his day.
Our school believes that the Word of God must be “rightly divided” in order have a make consistent meaning, with no contradictions. We believe that God progressively revealed His plan to mankind, and that understanding this revelation resolves the issues of contradiction, Calvinism, and charismatic confusion.
